Requirements For Admission Consideration To the Elementary MAT
Students must show the following, all of which will be detailed in the 2009-2010 Elementary Application Packet, available online in late summer 2008:
- Completed bachelor's degree;
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 90 quarter hours of graded undergraduate work and all work completed thereafter;
- Competence in subject matter as defined in Form B Subject Competency List (below);
- At least 90 hours successful experience in working with school-age children or youth at the early childhood/elementary level (preferably in a public school) verified by a recommendation or evaluation;
- Demonstrated effectiveness in oral and written communication;
- Sincere and appropriate desire to become a public school teacher and an understanding of the demands placed on a teacher;
- Satisfactory answers to "good conduct" questions as required by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC).

Admission is selective and competitive, and experience working in diverse settings is highly recommended.
Application Materials
The 2009-2010 OSU-Cascades Elementary MAT and graduate admissions applications will be available in late summer 2008. Interviews for the 2009-2010 Elementary MAT cohort are expected to take place in the winter through early spring 2009, with acceptance/denial letters going out to students in early spring 2009.
Advising
The first step in advising toward MAT program admission is to gather all of your transcripts, complete Form B, and submit them to Jay Casbon, Ph.D, Professor of Education at OSU Cascades, for his review. Testing Requirements
Passing scores on the CBEST (or Praxis PPST) are required prior to entering the program in June 2009. Passing scores on The ORELA Multiple Subjects Exam is required prior to entering the program in June 2009.
