What:
LS 406: Classroom Experience is course designed for pre-education students to experience the teaching environment, earn credit, and get a letter of recommendation for graduate school. Liberal Studies students can incorporate this course into their plan of study.
Why:
Students who are applying for the OSU-Cascades MAT program should have a minimum of 90 hrs classroom experience. This course allows students to get credit for this experience.
This class will help you answer question "Do I REALLY want to be a teacher?" Students will experience the daily challenges, successes, and frustrations of today's teachers and is a valuable tool for those thinking about careers in education.
Placement:
Students must find their own placements. It is best to have your placement arranged by the end of the term prior to the term you are volunteering. Parents and other relatives are not appropriate mentors. Tell your teacher about your talents and strengths so that he/she can use those in the classroom. Make your arrangements as soon as possible. Teachers may plan more complex activities knowing that they will have adult help.
*Remember that most school districts will require a background and/or fingerprinting check before you can be in a classroom. Allow a full month for this!
