Advising
Advising for Liberal Studies majors is provided by professional advisors, Liberal Studies peer advisors, and the College of Liberal Arts-Cascades faculty. All prospective Liberal Studies majors should meet with an advisor before submitting a plan of study for the chosen theme. This is especially important for Liberal Studies majors who design their own plans of study. CLA advisors have seen numerous plans and can help you craft a strong, well-thought out plan. Advisors can also serve as great resources for internship opportunities and career development.
Liberal Studies Academic Advising
Students should begin their advising process by applying for admission and registration. Information can be accessed at OSU-Cascades Admissions to Registration.
Students interested in Liberal Studies have a choice of majors. Begin by reviewing the overview of liberal studies majors and exploring the pre-designed themes implemented by taking on-site courses. Continue by registering and attending a required New Student Orientation session.
Upon admission to OSU-Cascades, you are ready to begin a three-step advising process: (1) Meet with OSU-Cascades Academic Advisor or a Liberal Studies Peer advisor during New Student Orientation. At this session, you will plan your first term's schedule, as well as receive an overview of your degree requirements and a transfer credit evaluation (if applicable), then (2) Attend a Liberal Studies Group Advising Session, then (3) Meet with a Faculty Advisor during Liberal Studies Advising Weeks. Please contact your Faculty Advisor prior to advising week to set up an appointment.
Drop-in peer advising hours are listed below.
Faculty advising appointments are limited to Advising Weeks. When meeting with your faculty advisor be prepared to discuss your Plan of Study and Application Essay which must be approved before the end of your second term at OSU-Cascades. Students are encouraged to visit OSU-Cascades Career Services early in this advising process.
