Baccalaureate Core
General Education Requirements
General education requirements vary by school, but typically
include courses to guarantee that all students have received the
benefits of a well-rounded curriculum. At OSU-Cascades,
students are held accountable to the general education
requirements of their "home institution" - either OSU (Baccalaureate Core) or UO
(Group Requirements).
Do you have an AAOT? Oregon community college students entering OSU-Cascades Campus Fall term 1990 or thereafter, having completed the Associate of Arts (AA) degree (meeting the OUS-Oregon Community College block transfer agreement) will automatically have satisfied all the lower-division requirements of the OSU Baccalaureate Core or the UO Group Requirements. Check with your program advisor to see if the AAOT is the best option for you.
OSU: Baccalaureate Core
The Baccalaureate Core is the general education component of
undergraduate education at OSU. It emphasizes creative thinking,
writing, world cultures, appreciation of differences, the arts,
sciences, literature, lifelong fitness, and global awareness in 15
course categories. Students must complete a total of 48 credits
plus the Writing Intensive Course (WIC). OSU-Cascades, in
partnership with COCC, offers several Baccalaureate Core courses
each term, but not every course each term. Students should work
with their adviser to map out these classes over the course of the
academic year. Courses offered are subject to change.

UO: Group Requirements
To promote educational breadth, UO bachelor's degree candidates are required to complete work in each of three groups representing comprehensive fields of knowledge: arts and letters, social science, and science. Approved group-satisfying courses must be at least 3 credits each. UO at OSU-Cascades, in partnership with COCC, offers several Group Requirements courses each term, but not every course each term. Students should work with their adviser to map out these classes over the course of the academic year. Courses offered are subject to change. UO students at OSU-Cascades are strongly encouraged to first finish the AAOT degree at COCC for ease of transferability.
