Transfer Credits

Transfer credit, whether from a high school AP class or from your previous college, will apply to your degree under the guidelines of your "home institution" - either OSU or UO.

OSU: Transferring credits to an OSU degree program

A complete, official evaluation of all course work reported to OSU will be sent to you once you have been admitted. This evaluation is referred to as an Advanced Standing Report and will reflect all college and university courses taken, as documented from your academic transcripts. The report will show whether or not OSU accepted the course in transfer, and if accepted, how it will transfer to OSU.

If you transfer to OSU from a community or junior college, up to 124 term credits (82 semester units) may be accepted toward your bachelor's degree. If the school you previously attended used the semester system, one semester credit equals 1.5 quarter credits at OSU.

OSU also accepts up to 12 hours of Professional/Technical credit. These hours are included when figuring your level (e.g. Freshman, Sophomore) and the total credits completed. They are not included in your GPA. Remedial courses are not considered in Professional/Technical hours.

Advanced Credit Opportunities

OSU awards ungraded credit for achievement on certain College Board Advanced Placement (AP) examinations. Information pertaining to specific AP credit policies is provided by high school counseling centers or may be obtained from the OSU Office of Admissions. Advanced standing credit may also be granted for scores of 5 or higher on the International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher Level examinations. IB advanced placement policies are determined by appropriate academic departments.

OSU also offers additional benefits for students who complete the full IB diploma. If total score is 30 or higher, benefits include guaranteed admission and sophomore standing. OSU's college code is 4586 for those wishing to have their scores sent.

Transfer credits from Other Colleges and Universities

For information on courses from Oregon Community Colleges that transfer to OSU as baccalaureate credit see Oregon Community College Articulation Tables

For information on courses from Oregon Colleges and Universities that transfer to OSU as baccalaureate credit see Oregon colleges and universities Articulation Tables. Please note not all courses from all universities have been reviewed, courses not on the list will be reviewed upon your application and acceptance to the university.

You can create a worksheet for use in your educational planning and check individual courses from all schools by using the OSU tranfser course search. This is a great tool for students with credit from schools outside of Oregon.

New to Oregon this year is the Oregon Transfer Module (OTM), a one-year curriculum for students who plan to transfer to an Oregon two-year or four-year college/university of higher education. For more information about this option and to see how it would transfer into OSU, see the OSU OTM website.

UO: Transferring credits to a UO degree program

Your transfer credits are evaluated as soon as all of your official transcripts have arrived. We send a transfer evaluation report, showing the number of credits transferred and course equivalents, to your mailing address before you meet with your adviser and register for classes. This report tells you which courses we have accepted and which courses count toward your general-education requirements. Your major adviser determines whether your transfer work meets major requirements. For more information about the general-education requirements, visit the UO Catalog online.

Transfer credits

The UO accepts college-level academic course work from regionally accredited two- or four-year colleges and universities. Credits from colleges outside the United States are evaluated individually. To grant transfer credit, we require official transcripts.
To show how credits will transfer, we offer four different options to assist you in determining transfer course credit equivalencies. For users with dynamic HTML compatible browsers, we offer an interactive version of the transfer catalog.

Frequently asked questions about transfer articulation

There is no maximum number of credits that can be transferred from a regionally accredited four-year college or university. Up to 124 credits from an accredited community or junior college may be applied to a bachelor's degree. Up to 12 credits of vocational-technical, physical education, and music performance courses, and up to 48 credits in professional courses such as veterinary medicine or nursing may be transferred.
One semester credit is equivalent to 1.5 quarter credits.

GPA calculation and grades

To determine your GPA for admission, we include all attempted credits for which you received an A, B, C, D, or F, even in repeated courses. Incompletes and withdrawals are not considered in the transfer GPA.

We accept transferable courses with grades of D- except for courses required for transfer admission (one college-level writing course and one college-level mathematics course) and for courses that satisfy the general-education requirements in writing, mathematics, and a second language. Grades of C- or better, P, or S are required in these courses.
We accept transferable courses graded P or S. However, because the UO required graded credits (A, B, C, or D), we recommend that you take no more than 12 credits of P or S work at your transfer school. We also recommend that all courses in your intended major, as well as writing, mathematics, and second languages, be taken for letter grades. If your school offers only P/N (pass/no pass) or S/U (satisfactory/unsatisfactory) grades, contact the UO Office of Admissions.
