OSU-Cascades to host "Day of Zinn"

Join us Monday, May 24, to participate in this day-long event in honor of Howard Zinn.

Howard Zinn was an author, historian, teacher, playwright, and political activist who died January 27, 2010.  The purpose of the “Day of Zinn” is to commemorate the influence Howard Zinn has had on society’s understanding of History and Social Justice.

Between 12 and 5 pm, in Cascades Hall 118, we will host volunteer readings of Howard Zinn's works.  Please visit http://www.signupgenius.com/go/125 to sign up for a time to read from one of your favorite books, speeches, articles or essays.

  • If you need help determining a selection, please contact either Natalie Dollar (ndollar@osucascades.edu) or Daniel Stroud (Daniel.Stroud@osucascades.edu) and they will work with you to identify a reading relevant to your social justice interests.
  • Please feel free to drop by at any time between 12 and 5 pm to listen to the readings.

You are also invited to join us for Dinner and a Movie, at 6 pm for a viewing of Howard Zinn's "You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train", followed by a discussion of the DVD and social justice.  Natalie Dollar and Daniel Stroud will facilitate the discussion.  To R.S.V.P. please visit http://www.signupgenius.com/go/69.

Throughout the afternoon and evening we will construct a social justice “wall.” The wall’s “bricks” will be individual pieces of paper on which students, community members, faculty and staff write out a local, state, regional, national, or world social justice issue.

Please spread the word and come out to help us commemorate Howard Zinn and his lifelong commitment to social justice.
