More than 40 veterans pursuing degrees at OSU-Cascades

More than 40 students who receive veteran education benefits at Oregon State University - Cascades served in the military. In total, 51 students at the branch campus access veteran tuition benefits, including 10 who are accessing dependent benefits.

Of the students who are accessing veteran education benefits:

  • 13 are women
  • The oldest is 55; the youngest is 19
  • 41 represent Central Oregon, 3 are from elsewhere in Oregon, 7 are from outside the state
  • Of those residing in Central Oregon, 20 are from Bend, 10 from Redmond, two each are from La Pine, Prineville, Madras, Powell Butte, Terrebonne, and one is from Warm Springs

In recent years, OSU-Cascades has developed services and resources for student veterans and veterans in the community.  The career services office at the branch campus provides resources for student veterans to assist with the transition from military to college life, and to a civilian career.

Through the graduate counseling program’s clinic, free counseling is offered to community members, including veterans.  Sessions provided by the clinic are facilitated by graduate students under the guidance of faculty and clinical supervisors.  Amy Ford leads the graduate program’s clinical mental health program and specializes in veteran populations, supervising the clinic’s veteran’s outreach program.
