OSU-Cascades Business Professor to Speak at City Club
Julie Elston, an assistant professor of business at Oregon State University - Cascades Campus, will co-present at the upcoming City Club Forum on "Reflecting Back on the Bailout" on Thursday, December 17.
Elston will be joined by Tim Duy of the University of Oregon’s Department of Economics Together, Elston and Duy will discuss the nature of the financial crisis, the bailout package, successes and failures of the bailout to date, critical follow up on the rescue, and thoughts on unemployment policy. Elston will explore issues resulting from the bailout at the national and international levels, and Duy will focus on the impact in Oregon and nationwide.
Elston specializes in financial economics, international business, and entrepreneurship. In 2008 she was selected as a Fulbright Scholar and studied the impact of science on policy formation in the European Union. She serves as an associate editor of the Small Business Economics Journal. She provides research for international governmental agencies, organizations and businesses including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Deutsche Bundesbank and the US National Academies of Sciences.
Elston graduated from the University of Washington's Department of Economics, and has held academic positions at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin in Germany, the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, the California Institute of Technology, and the University of Central Florida. She was selected as a policy fellow in the Robert Bosch Foundation Scholars Program in Comparative Public Policy. Since 2003 she has served as a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Economics in Jena.
