OSU-Cascades lecture explores the Deschutes River Basin … virtually

Oregon Explorer is a Web-based natural resources digital library that integrates data from scientists, governments and citizens and helps inform decisions that can affect Oregon’s natural environment. At Oregon State University - Cascades next “It’s in the Bag” lecture on Wednesday, February 2, librarian Maureen Kelly, will take you on a guided tour of the Deschutes basin site within Oregon Explorer, and demonstrate how site users can access data, reports, photos, restoration information and interactive tools.

Kelly is one of the creators of the Deschutes basin site.  She earned her master’s in library science from University of Washington and was head of library reference at the University of Puget Sound.  She came to OSU-Cascades nine years ago to start a program of library services for the new branch campus.  The shared library services and resources built by OSU and Central Oregon Community College represent an unusual and successful cooperative enterprise that serves both campus students and the Central Oregon community.   As a descendant of Oregon homesteading farmers, she has an interest in land use and conservation and first proposed idea of a Deschutes Basin Explorer.

“It’s in the Bag” lectures are free and no reservation is needed. Complimentary beverages will be available.  Audience members are asked to pick-up a free parking pass from the main office before parking.  For more information visit http://www.osucascades.edu/lunchtime-lectures or contact 541-322-3100 or info@osucascades.edu.
