Emily Carr, a poet and an academic program administrator at Oregon State University's branch campus in Bend has been nominated for a 2015 Pushcart Prize. Carr is director of the low-residency master of fine arts in creative writing program at OSU-Cascades.
The Pushcart Prize is an annual American literary prize awarded by Pushcart Press. The prize honors the best poetry, short fiction, essays or literary whatnot published in small presses. An anthology of the selected works has been published annually since 1976. The anthology's founding editors include Anas Nin, Buckminster Fuller, Ishmael Reed and Joyce Carol Oates.
Writers who received recognition in Pushcart Prize anthologies early in their careers include Steven Barthelme, Raymond Carver, Junot Diaz, William Monahan, Paul Muldoon and Ana Menndez.
Carr was nominated by Fairy Tale Review for poems that appear in Name Your Bird Without a Gun, a tarot novel.
Carr has been a finalist in seven national book contests, most notably The National Poetry Series 2011. Her second book of poetry, 13 Ways of Happily: Books 1 & 2 (Parlor Press 2011) was chosen by Cole Swensen as winner of the 2009 New Measures Poetry Prize. Carr has received fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Jack Kerouac House, Writers in the Heartland, and Camac Centre d'Art.
She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri, a master of fine arts from University of North Carolina-Wilmington and a Ph.D. from the University of Calgary.
