OSU-Cascades Professor and Author of Bong Hits 4 Jesus presents It's in the Bag Lecture

In January 2002, the Olympic Torch Relay visited Alaska on its way to the Winter Games.  When the relay runner and accompanying camera cars passed Juneau-Douglas High School, senior Joseph Frederick and several friends unfurled a fourteen-foot banner reading "BONG HiTS 4 JESUS."   Oregon State University - Cascades' professor and Bong Hits 4 Jesus: A Perfect Constitutional Storm in Alaska’s Capital author James C. Foster explores this incident and the resulting Supreme Court case when the university's annual It's in the Bag ecture series debuts on Wednesday, November 3, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in Cascades Hall, Room 118.

James C. Foster is a professor of political science at OSU-Cascades.   Before coming to the campus in Bend in 2002, he was chair of Oregon State University's Department of Political Science for 12 years. He teaches courses on constitutional law, administrative law, gender and law, and American political thought. Foster has published articles on legal education, book chapters on affirmative action and equality debates, as well as on the Oregon Judicial Branch. He is co-editor of the book Governing Through Courts and co-author of the two-volume Constitutional Law: Cases in Context. Foster has taught twice in London and in St. Petersburg, Russia. He was a book review editor for Legal Studies Forum for 10 years, and has served as president of the Pacific Coast Association of Pre-law Studies and the Pacific Northwest Political Science Association.
