Seven percent of students at OSU-Cascades accessing veteran education benefits

veterans-dayThis fall, students who are accessing veteran tuition benefits make up seven percent of the student body at Oregon State University - Cascades, an increase in 36 students over last year. 

Of the 76 students who receive veteran education benefits, 62 served in the military.  In addition:

  • 47 are women
  • 60 represent Central Oregon, 10 are from elsewhere in Oregon and 6 are from outside the state
  • Of those residing in Central Oregon, 38 are from Bend, 10 from Redmond, 5 from Prineville, 4 from Terrebone, and one each are from LaPine, Powell Butte and Warm Springs
  • The primary subjects studied by the current student veterans are natural resources (10), business administration (10), energy systems engineering, biology (6), exercise and sport science (6) and liberal studies (5)
  • One student is pursuing a graduate degree in elementary education, two are pursuing graduate degrees in counseling
  • The oldest is 58; the youngest is 18
