TOL Internship and Practicum

All TOL majors complete an internship and practicum experience in their degree requirements.

Internship Information

The TOL internship program at Oregon State University – Cascades is designed to combine academic preparation with practical experience by offering a jointly sponsored and supervised learning experience. The TOL program works with businesses, government agencies, and other organizations (intern “hosts”) to facilitate this important professional development effort. Internship opportunities are not limited to Oregon; students can complete their internship anywhere in the world.

Use the TOL Internship Guide to prepare and begin internship process.  Students should complete the internship experience after they have completed the OL Practicum requirement.

Students should work with the TOL program lead and the OSU-Cascades Career Development Center while planning internship experience.

TOL students who are in the International Ecotourism Option must do an international internship experience.

Practicum Information

The OL 280 Practicum is designed for students to gain professional experience in the field of outdoor leadership, applying conceptual understandings and practical skills gained through the recommended OL program courses (OL 111, 255, 253, 271, 273, 207 and guide based technical skills courses ). This course allows students to create, with guidance, their own practicum experience based on their professional goals and plans, all the while meeting the requirements of the practicum.

Use the practicum overview and practicum proposal template to prepare for practicum experience.

Students will work directly with the OL Practicum Faculty at COCC to prepare and finalize their practicum experience. Students should plan to complete practicum as soon as pre-reqs are completed.
